This card has always been a very special card to me; I know it’s probably one of the most famous cards of all time but it’s more than that to me.
I remember buying hundreds of packs trying to get ONE of these stupid cards but I never could. My mom paid $10 for the card and surprised me with it one night. She brought me a pack home and it was already opened, she said she couldn’t wait and had to see if the card was in there…but it wasn’t. As I went through the pack, there it was….as amazing as it is today.
She would always go to BINGO so she started taking it as “good luck” to put above her cards because it was my favorite card of all time.
One day, she yelled for me to throw her purse down to her and not realizing that the card was in there from the following night of BINGO, she missed and it crashed onto the sidewalk (from an up stairs apartment). The case the card was in cracked and it creased the upper corner. (the circled one!)
I was crushed, of course, I was in elementary or middle school, so you could probably understand.
I bought the graded 8 at a stand at a mall, I got a decent deal on it and then I bought a set of 1989 Upper Decks and took the other one out of the set, it looks to be a perfect 10 but I haven’t paid to have it graded yet…….
……regardless of what it is, the one with the crease will always be more valuable to me.
I have this card too….also one of my favs! GO REDS!
My Johnny Cueto rookie card… I love his autograph! lol
